Enjoy a glass of bubbles while you have your nails done.

Salon habitués have long brought a little wine along for the experience. Some forward-thinking spa owners have also recently started pouring the occasional tipple of Prosecco or whatever wine was on sale at the store down the street. However, few of them have ever really taken it to the next level by offering a high-end selection of wines for customers to enjoy while getting their nails done.

Leave it to a smart, young San Francisco entrepreneur to up the ante by opening ZaZa’s Nail Spa in the City’s hot South of Market neighborhood a couple of years ago. Not only is Rachel Cheng pouring noted Champagne brands and lovely sparkling rosés from Loire Valley, but glasses of all of them are included in the price of a manicure.

The spa is located across the street from South Park.

“People were bringing their own wine and we were pouring it on the down low,” she notes, about her decision to take the wine service up a notch. That made her decide to team up with a local sommelier and provide her clients with a lovely list of wines by the glass that they can drink to relax when they come after a busy work day.

    The Fine Print

The salon thankfully avoids doing some of the more odiferous nail services, so guests can really enjoy the wine. One of my favorites was the rosé sparkling Domaine de Nerleux, from the Loire Valley. It was full of ripe red fruit flavors and deliciously dry. She also serves Champagnes that vary from Clicquot’s Yellow Label to Champagne Tassin, a smaller-production Champagne.

The Loire Valley is making some great sparkling wine.

One of the spa’s signature pedicures is the CBD (Cannabidiol) pedicure complete with a CBD bath bomb for the feet and CBD-infused oil. It is served with a little CDB-flavored tea in versions like turmeric and ginger for digestion. All the products are non reactive but dovetail with the increased use of these products following the legalization of recreational marijuana use in California. All the services are charged a la carte with a basic manicure coming in at $29.

A handful of regulars shared why they enjoy the vibe at ZaZa’s. Alyssa, who didn’t want to share her last name, says she works in the neighborhood and likes to bring clients in for nail services. Maddie, her guest, adds that “the atmosphere is calming and the quality of the service is generally better than other places in San Francisco.”
