Nothing about PACHAMAMA CBD is average. The brand sources single-origin flower from a Colorado based USDA Certified Organic Hemp farm and utilizes a 100% solvent free, USDA Organic Certified air extraction method to deliver CBD in its cleanest form. Taking purity to the next level, PACHAMAMA is one-of-four CBD brands (out of 248) to receive the Purity Award from The Clean Label Project highlighting the commitment to crafting exceptional products. Today, PACHAMAMA is one of few to merge the benefits and powers of superfoods with the restorative and regenerative properties of CBD. After his own personal battle with addiction, Co-Founder Brandon Stump became hyper focused on wellness, ushering in a new wave of positive lifestyle choices and ultimately leading to the creation of PACHAMAMA. Today, the work-force behind the brand is largely sober and while everyone’s road to recovery is different, it’s the team’s shared dedication to wellness and purity that sets the brand apart.

Warren Bobrow=WB: Please tell me about your company? What brought you to the cannabis business? What did you do originally?

Brandon Stump=BS: A badly torn ligament in my ankle from a basketball game brought me to CBD. A friend of mine who was familiar with CBD encouraged me to look into it, but as a sober guy, I wanted absolutely nothing to do with anything in the realm of cannabis. But there I was suffering from a torn ligament and in extreme pain. This same friend, who happens to be a certified nutritionist and physical trainer, gave me a topical CBD product, which I assumed was going to be no different than Icy Hot. I applied it, and I was blown away by the relief. I remember thinking, “This cream is magic! What on earth is in it? How on earth does it work?” From that moment forward, I was on a mission to learn everything I could about CBD.

At the time, I was managing 20 sober living homes in Southern California (which I continue to operate and manage today). The key to sobriety is community, and not just any community but one that’s highly structured around mental, emotional and physical health and wellness.

The more I learned about CBD, the more concerned my business partner (and brother), Ryan Stump, and I became about the quality of products that were currently on the market. We saw an opportunity to create a brand built on true health and wellness, full transparency, and community. Our company, PACHAMAMA CBD, means “Mother Earth,” the giver of all life, and while I’m proud of the superior quality of our products we’ve developed in partnership with Mother Earth, I’m most proud of our company culture. Our workforce is 70% sober. If these young folks can beat addiction, the sky’s the limit in terms of what they can professionally accomplish with the right support system, mentorship and community in place. These are people who are grateful to be alive, who are determined to change people’s lives for the better, and who share a palpable passion to stay the course, to do right by one another and our consumers, and to reach their full potential. Together we rise.

WB:Do you have a mentor? Did you always want to do what you do today? Who inspired you?

BS: Yes. My mentor is my pops. I run all major decisions both in life and business through him. He’s just always right. He’s my north star, and he spearheads our sales operations at PACHAMAMA. In under a year, he and our sales team have secured more than 1000 retailers for our products. It’s a true “family affair.” Not everyone at PACHAMAMA is a blood relative, but we are all family.

I always knew I wanted to work for myself. I’m good at leading in business, but not necessarily at being led. That doesn’t mean I’m opposed to collaboration, partnerships, new ideas or guidance, just that my strengths lie in management and implementing strategic vision, mission and overall direction. In every aspect of business, I’m a problem solver dedicated to doing it 100% right, and I’m unapologetic about it. Will Smith once said something to the effect of, “I’m not afraid to die on a treadmill.” This one inspiring statement fuels my work ethic every minute of the day.

I’m also inspired by a number of athletes like Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan as well as coaches like Greg Popovich and Bill Belichick. Their mental fortitude, their ability to bring out the best in their teams, and their unapologetic drive not just to be the best, but to work the hardest to be the best… these are the qualities I admire and try to emulate. You can’t cut corners in sobriety, and the same goes for business when the goal is long term success and consumer brand loyalty.

WB: What are your goals in business? Six and twelve- month? What about the obstacles?

BS: My primary goal is to build a company that continues to change lives – the lives of our employee community as well as the lives of consumers – for years to come. To that end, we’re always researching and exploring how we can better serve consumers based on their needs, their lifestyles, the diversity of CBD delivery mechanisms presently available (topicals, gels caps, tinctures, edibles, etc), and how CBD is metabolized by the body. Over the next 6 months, we plan to launch a range of new products that offer broad and full spectrum CBD in forms. For example, this month we’re excited to launch a vegan gel capsule the second week of May that features CBD wrapped in a tapioca shell – a great option for those wanting the great benefits of CBD in an extended release capsule form. Over the next 6 to 12 months, we will be rolling out our PACHAMAMA CSR initiative that’s currently in development. And my long term goal is to see PACHAMAMA products on shelves globally.

We’re a disruptive startup within an emerging, disruptive industry, so obstacles are abundant. I’m immensely competitive by nature (hence my frequent sports references); and just like in sports, I believe the best way to overcome obstacles is to anticipate them, strategically prepare for them, and learn from our mistakes as well as those of our competitors. We have numerous action plans in place for countless scenarios that could and do arise. We live by Murphy’s Law, that everything that can go wrong will go wrong.

WB: Do you have a favorite food memory? What does your favorite meal look like? Made by whom? (Living or not)

BS: Food makes me really happy, especially when shared with family. I’ve been blessed to be able to experience food all over the world. Some of my favorite food memories include the time I had freshly caught sea bass over a wood fire flame, campfire-style on a beach in Mexico, cooked and prepared by a local fisherman using nothing other than fire. It was the best fish dish in my life. Another incredible food memory was the time I got to eat fresh black truffle pasta in this tiny little village in Northern Italy. My senses were full. I can still taste it.

I literally love all foods and dishes (I love vegan restaurants, Chinese cuisine, Indonesian cuisine, French cuisine, Italian cuisine… ), but if I had to pick one food genre that is my go-to, it would be Texas BBQ: Texas beef brisket, burnt ends, and beef ribs.

WB: What is your passion?

BS: My passion is winning at life and really taking the time to acknowledge and appreciate each and every win. I celebrate them all, big or minuscule, as they happen… whether it’s getting my cable bill chopped in half or helping someone on the streets get sober and then witnessing them celebrate their first sober anniversary with friends and family by their side. My passion is facing adversity head-on with a vengeance and coming out the other side a better human being. I love sharing wins with others, and if I’m honest, my favorite thing is just watching people win.
